Dr. Gengyun Qiu, a talented cellist and teacher, began playing cello at the age of five. During 2009-2016, she completed her second Master degree of cello pedagogy and Doctoral program in cello performance at the University of Houston. Since she attended Moores Music School, she was the assistant at Professor Vagram Saradjian’s cello studio. From 2011 to 2016, she was the cello instructor of Preparatory and Continuing Studies department of Moores School of Music; she was a cello coach at several middle and high schools in the Houston Metro area and was the only cello instructor of Suzuki Academy of Houston for 6 years. Most of her studio students have succeeded at the Regional, All State and orchestra auditions such as Houston Youth Symphony Orchestra. Some of her students pursue their music career and attend professional music colleges such as Moores Music School of University of Houston.
Dr. Qiu earned a lot of competitions since her early age. In 2005, she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in cello performance at Renmin University in China, and then graduated with her first Master degree in cello performance at Central Conservatory of Music in China. She was the principal cellist in the China Youth Symphony Orchestra from 2006 to 2009. She joined many leading symphony orchestras as a contract cellist in China such as China's National Symphony Orchestra, and China's Philharmonic.
