Qian Chang

Violin Faculty

Qian Chang is a violinist who recently completed the Artist Diploma program at the Shepherd School of Music, Rice University, where she studied with internationally renowned violinist Cho-Liang Lin. She previously earned a Master of Music degree from Rice University and a Bachelor of Music degree from the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music, National University of Singapore, where she studied with Zhou Qian. Prior to her undergraduate studies, she attended the Affiliated High School of the Xinghai Conservatory of Music, where she began studying with Jingqiong Wang at the age of ten.

Qian was a top-32 competitor at the 2023 International Paganini Violin Competition and a semifinalist in the 2023 Qingdao International Violin Competition. In 2026, she received a finalist award in the Rice University Concerto Competition. Earlier in her career, she won Sixth Prize at the Sixth Qingdao Violin Competition and First Prize at the Hong Kong International Violin Competition.

As a soloist, Qian has performed Mozart’s Violin Concerto No. 3 in G major and Bruch’s Scottish Fantasy with orchestra. Her performance of Scottish Fantasy earned her top honors in the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory Concerto Competition.

Her performances have taken her to leading concert halls and performing arts centers around the world, including Carnegie Hall (New York), the Wortham Theater Center and Hobby Center for the Performing Arts (Houston), Konzerthaus Berlin (Germany), Snape Maltings Concert Hall (United Kingdom), Palazzo Doria Tursi (Italy), the Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay and Victoria Concert Hall (Singapore), as well as the Beijing Concert Hall, Shanghai Oriental Art Center, Suzhou Culture and Arts Centre Grand Theatre, and Qingdao Grand Theatre in China.

An active chamber musician, Qian has collaborated with many distinguished artists, including Cho-Liang Lin, Jon Kimura Parker, Yoonshin Song, Alan Stepansky, Richard Hawley, Jonathan Feldman, Timothy Pitts, Brinton Smith, James Dunham, Jingqiong Wang, and Zijian Wei.

During her studies at Rice University, Qian served associate Concertmaster of the Rice University Orchestra, performing  under Music Director Miguel Harth-Bedoya and distinguished guest conductors including William Eddins.

Qian has participated in numerous international festivals, including the Music Academy of the West, NYO–China, the Bolzano Festival, and the Singapore International Music Festival, and has appeared regularly at the Montecito International Music Festival in the United States. In 2026, she was invited to join the festival faculty as a teaching assistant.

As a student,  with over eight years of teaching experience, Qian is passionate about inspiring and mentoring the next generation of musicians. She is dedicated to cultivating each student’s artistic individuality through personalized instruction, a strong technical foundation, and a supportive learning environment. Under her guidance, students have been admitted to prestigious institutions including the Colburn Academy, Central Conservatory of Music, Shanghai Conservatory of Music, Zhejiang Conservatory of Music, Xinghai Conservatory of Music, and university music programs throughout the United States. Her students have also earned top honors in national and international competitions, including First Prize at the International Henryk Wieniawski Youth Violin Competition, First Prize at the Hong Kong International Violin Competition, Finalist in the 3rd National Youth Violin Concerto Competition, First Prize in the 14th Golden Beijing Violin Competition , First Prize in the 3rd Shaanxi Provincial Violin Competition ,Silver Prize in the Prokofiev International Violin Competition (Childreand Excellence Awards in the Sino-Italian International Youth Violin Competition, First price in IIMC Competition.
