Jia Liu is a piano soloist, active recital chamber musician, and educator. She is currently a DMA candidate (Doctor of Musical Arts) at Michigan State University. She received the 2nd award in the Macao International Piano Competition and served as a judge for the National Federation of Music Clubs. She is an active member of the Texas Music Educators Association and has been awarded the Scholarship for AGO Organist Award from 2022 to 2024. Additionally, she was the recipient of the Christina P. and Anna J. Heide Scholarship from 2015 to 2018.
She was born in Shenyang, China, where she began her musical journey at the age of 4. She studied under Professor Xiaobai Lv, the former head of the piano department at the Shenyang Conservatory of Music, and later attended the Middle School Attached to the Shenyang Conservatory of Music. At the age of 13, she transferred to the Middle School Attached to the China Conservatory of Music in Beijing, where she studied with Professors Qiu Wang and Xiaofeng Zhang (co-director of the piano department) as a soloist. Later, she moved to the United States and studied with Professor Debbie Masloski, majoring in both piano performance and piano pedagogy at Carthage College with nearly a full scholarship and stayed on the Dean's List for 4 years. Additionally, she served as an assistant for piano group lessons and music theory.
Later, she developed a passion for chamber music and pursued professional training in chamber music performance at Rice University with Professor Weckstrom Virginia, receiving a high scholarship.
During her doctoral studies under Dr. Tang's guidance, she collaborated with numerous renowned musicians worldwide. Additionally, she devoted significant attention to piano pedagogy, accumulating extensive teaching experience with ABRSM (Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music), and presenting over 20 recitals annually.
Ms. Jia Liu joined the piano faculty of Vivace International School of Music in 2024 and teaches at both the Vivace Katy, Vivace Houston and Vivace Sugar Land campuses. She is also an accomplished collaborative pianist, offering Vivace Rehearsal Lessons for string and wind students, as well as the Vivace Ear Training & Music Theory Program for students of all instruments. Through these programs, she helps students prepare for competitions, exams, auditions, recordings, and recitals.
