Barry Sames

Barry Sames is a pianist, arranger, composer and producer from Philadelphia area. His musical expertise andtraining bridges the Genres of Classical, Jazz Popular, Gospel and Latin/Brazilian music. Mr. Sames begin private studies at age 7, his teachers included Dr. Samuel Hsu (Pupil of Rosina Lhévinne), Charles Birnbaum (Pupil of Marian Filar) Phiroze Mehta (Pupil of Solmon Cutner), and Alexander Fiorillo (Pupil of Vladamir Horowitz). Barry switched to Jazz Studies during college, graduating from Temple University with a degree in Jazz Piano Performance. His teachers included Dr. John Valerio and later Joanne Brakeen in NYC. Upon graduation Mr. Sames began a career in the exploding Philadelphia Jazz scene, both as a vocalist accompanist & arranger and performing with artists John Blake, Charles Fambrough, Marlon Simon and Alfredo Naranjo. Mr. Sames also began exploring world rhythms, performing

with Arabic Cellist Kinan Abou Afach, Indian Sitarist Ustad Shafat Khan, South African Guitarist Sharon Katz and Moroccan Oudist Karim Kadiri.

In 2001 Barry began producing & recording independent artists and his own projects in his recording studio. His varied artists spanned jazz, gospel, fusion, pop and various Industrial videos. Mr. Sames studied Film scoring at UCLA Los Angeles in 2004.

Mr. Sames opened his own piano studio in 2008 for private studies in the Philadelphia area, teaching classical, jazz improvisation, Latin and Gospel music styles to adults and children. He Also directed Gospel choirs & Jazz Bands, conducted Assemblies in pubic Schools and his own writing and performing with various artists.

Barry moved to Houston in 2017 and continued performing, teaching, arranging and conducting in Katy TX. He performs with Jazz combos, big bands, Brazilian, Afro Cuban and arranges and performs for vocalists of all styles in the Houston area. He also Conducts church orchestras, and is an accompanist for many solo and Ensemble UIL contests in Katy & Sugarland. Mr. Sames’ teaching style combines his varied musical expertise and experience toinspire his students with customized educational plans toward their goals.

Mr. Barry Sames joined the piano faculty of Vivace International School of Music in 2026 and teaches at the Vivace Houston, Vivace Katy, and Vivace Sugar Land campuses. An accomplished pianist, educator, and music professional, he teaches Jazz Piano, Classical Piano, Gospel Piano, Contemporary Piano, Brazilian and Afro-Cuban Piano, Trombone, Music Production, Arranging, Vivace Ear Training & Music Theory. He is also an experienced collaborative pianist.
